Rust August 2026 Force Wipe Recap: Power Grids, Satellite Crashes and a New Wipe Meta

Rust's August 2026 force wipe landed on 6 August 2026. Its headline feature is a connected set of Player Maintained Monuments: players can restore the Power Plant grid and activate services at monuments across the island. The update also shipped a server-wide Satellite Crash event, new resource systems, progression balance changes, quality-of-life improvements and two paid DLC releases.

The result is a wipe where monument control matters beyond the loot inside one building. Groups that coordinate Power Plant, Oil Rig, Dome, Water Treatment and roadside infrastructure can unlock benefits for everyone—or fight to control when and how those benefits become available.

Power Plant is now a strategic island objective

The confirmed centerpiece is the restorable Power Plant. Players can find new Heavy Fuses as loot and insert them into special fuse boxes at the monument. Different connected systems require different amounts of power, so restoring the grid is a staged process rather than a single on-off interaction.

Once electricity is flowing, roadside powerline poles fitted with white transformer cylinders can supply player electrical circuits. The poles are also directly climbable: approach one and jump rather than carrying a ladder. On fresh servers, this creates potential roadside building locations for players willing to rely on a public grid whose availability may be contested.

Recycling is tied directly into this system. Green recyclers outside safe zones now operate at 50% efficiency without sufficient grid power. Power Plant can restore them to 60%, while maximum power reduces their processing duration from five seconds to 4.5 seconds. Safe-zone yellow recyclers are unchanged.

Power Plant also contains one new red recycler. It offers 75% efficiency but only works when the plant reaches maximum power. Community creator Keeno's red recycler location guide describes it as being near the blue keycard spawn. That location note is community guidance; the recycler's efficiency and maximum-power requirement are confirmed by Facepunch.

Satellite Crash creates a player-triggered server event

Launch Site now has a Satellite Control Computer. Powering it requires tech trash and an aiming module, after which players can select a satellite and use thruster controls to choose its crash location. Facepunch intentionally provides no operating manual, so crews must learn how the controls affect the target.

After the location is locked, the satellite begins a descent visible to the entire server. It eventually impacts and scatters new satellite loot crates, which cannot be opened until they cool. This is not a discreet farming method: triggering the event publicly announces that valuable loot and a likely fight are coming.

For wipe-day teams, the important decision is whether to trigger a crash immediately or prepare a defensible extraction plan first. Expect Launch Site control, transport, reconnaissance and knowledge of nearby terrain to matter as much as operating the terminal itself.

Dome oil pumping links Power Plant and both Oil Rigs

When Power Plant is running, a new switch on Large Oil Rig can pump crude oil toward Dome for 20 minutes. Small Oil Rig has another switch that pumps at half the Large Rig rate. Both can run simultaneously, producing crude at a combined 1.5-times rate.

The crude cannot simply be collected from a barrel. Players need a vehicle equipped with the Tanker vehicle module to drain it, then must transport the tanker to a car lift to extract the cargo. That creates a multi-stage logistics route involving Power Plant activation, offshore monument access, Dome, a suitable modular vehicle and a functioning lift.

This favors organized crews, but it also creates interception opportunities. Smaller groups do not necessarily have to own every stage if they can ambush a tanker or contest the extraction point.

Water, food, vehicles and aircraft now depend on maintenance

  • Water Treatment Plant: Roadside water pipes begin empty. With the Power Plant grid live, players can insert gears into two monument gearboxes to pressurize the central tank and clear blockages. Inserted gears are consumed and cannot be recovered. Maintaining pressure later is easier than completing the initial cold start.
  • Supermarket: A new powered freezer supplies a steady stream of chilled food and occasionally produces a larger cache.
  • Oxum's Gas Station: Grid power or the garage's backup generator activates the external garage-door switch and internal car lift. Raising the lift also provides access to a cave with a chance of higher-quality car-part spawns.
  • Airfield: The refreshed terminal tower contains two chargeable terminals. The smaller terminal increases the island-wide airdrop rate, while the larger one calls a Chinook resupply crate near the airfield tarmac. Both lose charge after activation and become reusable after fully draining.

Together, these systems turn common monuments into service hubs. A group restoring the grid may help the whole server, but controlling the activated machinery, generated resources and surrounding roads remains a PvP problem.

Fresh-wipe progression received several brakes

High external walls now carry a static 20% upkeep cost. Facepunch positions this between the upkeep rates of ordinary building blocks, preserving compounds while making huge wall networks and external-TC land claims more expensive to maintain. Abandoned or raided compounds should also decay sooner when nobody replenishes them.

Water-well vendors received a substantial stock reduction. Their stock falls from ten items to two, while the restock interval rises from two minutes to ten. Prices are unchanged. The stated goal is to keep wells useful as an introduction to teas and advanced tools without letting players purchase ten jackhammers and ten advanced teas within the opening hours.

The Wolf Headdress now requires a Tier 1 workbench to craft, reducing its immediate availability in early bow fights. Lunar New Year animal masks, which share its statistics, are now skins of the same item and can be freely reskinned between variants.

Ore nodes and woodpiles can no longer spawn inside safe zones. Because they could only be harvested there with a rock, uncollected resources could accumulate and consume part of the map's global spawn population. Their removal should leave more resource spawns available elsewhere.

Combat, inventory and respawn quality-of-life changes

Players can bind a control to toggle shields between a back-mounted stance that permits aiming down sights and a side position that blocks incoming attacks. Stance changes have a cooldown to prevent rapid switching from adding randomness to gunfights.

Hover looting clothing from a body bag now handles equipment swaps correctly. Removed armor goes to the main inventory or, if that inventory is completely full, into the body bag being looted. Respawn points can also be marked on the compass by interacting with a bag or bed, while favorite bags appear first on the death screen.

The Recycle Bin workbench upgrade now has a take-only inventory where returned bonus items accumulate. Wooden arrows received refreshed visuals, the Apartment Complex Master Key gained its missing view model and animations, and the demo UI was rebuilt with camera controls, keyframes, scene management, sandbox tools and PNG-sequence export for content creators.

Bar Games and Stone Sculpture DLC

The paid Bar Games Pack includes playable solo or multiplayer pool and darts, an interactive jukebox, themed stools, wallpapers and sprays, plus Mini Fridge and Shotgun Trap skins. In pre-release community coverage, Keeno called it the Games Room DLC and highlighted the animated ammunition on the trap skin; that wording and observation come from his community preview. The confirmed release name is Bar Games Pack.

A separate paid Stone Sculpture item lets owners deploy a block of stone and carve it into a custom shape. Neither DLC is required to use the new monument network.

What it means for wipe day

Do not treat Power Plant as an ordinary card run. Track Heavy Fuses, scout the transformer network and decide whether your team benefits more from powering recyclers, water, food, vehicles or event terminals. Keep a modular tanker if you intend to run Dome crude, and expect Satellite Crash locations, the red recycler and Airfield resupplies to attract server-wide attention.

Compound builders should budget for the new wall upkeep before placing large perimeters. Farmers should no longer plan around rapidly buying bulk tools and teas from water wells, while early fighters need a Tier 1 bench before crafting Wolf Headdresses.
